The Future of Lifestyle Medicine

February 20, 2013 | By Jacquelynn Powers | I have seen the future of medicine and it’s not ObamaCare. Far from it, actually. Instead, this next evolution is embodied by Dr. Ivan Rusilko, a 28-year-old MD who treats lifestyles versus lives. He does so via concierge medicine, which is the new buzzword in the medical world. Essentially, it’s a service whereby wealthy people pay extra money to return to the days of house calls and personalized attention. Yes, it is for the privileged, but here on Miami Beach we’re used to that.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. It’s hard not to when Dr. Ivan is so charming and seemingly wants to revolutionize medicine. In fact, after 20 minutes with the good doctor (did I mention he is also drop-dead gorgeous?) my head is spinning—heartbeat too, lol. Plus, he was Mr. USA twice (2008 and 2010) and writes erotic fiction in his spare time. And he drives a motorcycle. Swoon!

All of this activity is occurring at Club Essentia, a wellness retreat at the penthouse of the Delano Hotel. Dr. Ivan’s office sits among the clouds and affords breathtaking views of the South Beach skyline. Ostensibly, this space also serves at the Spa for Delano Hotel guests and offers lovely treatments like facials, massages, body wraps and nail services. I had an indulgent 60-minute Honey & Milk body treatment, which included a scrub down with a loofah (to remove dead skin), application of warm honey, massage and cleansing milk bath. Not only was I super relaxed but my skin was glowing afterward.
