EATONTON — June 6, 2013 — More than 200 people attended town hall meetings to learn more about an innovative medical practice opening this summer. Dr. Eddie Richardson and Dr. Jameelah Gater, physician owners of Lake Oconee Urgent and Specialty Care, hosted the event, which highlighted their new concierge medical practice.
“We are thrilled to be the first to bring this type of cutting edge medical care to Lake Oconee. Concierge medicine allows us to provide highly personalized health care and spend significantly more time with patients. It will allow us to focus on health and wellness rather than problem focused, disease based medicine. Best of all, it allows patients access to the physician via telephone, e-mail, or text and the reassurance that whatever the medical concern we’re here to immediately address it,” Dr. Gater enthusiastically explained.
Concierge Medicine centers around three main principles: time, communication and relationships. It gives physicians the chance to spend additional time and provide an increased level of care to their member patients. For those willing to invest in their own health and wellness, patients can receive such benefits as 24/7 access to their physician, same day/next day appointments, house calls when appropriate and in-depth physicals with enhanced personalized wellness plans.
Drs. Richardson and Gater will also be bringing their own unique approach to their concierge practice. By limiting the number of member patients, they will be able to spend more time with the entire family; children and aging parents alike. With a specialty in Geriatrics, Dr. Richardson has a unique set of skills that can help the aging population in a way unlike any other primary care physician within a 50 mile radius. Dr. Gater, who specializes in Integrative Medicine, prides herself in helping patients with both conventional and evidence based alternative medical therapies. By focusing on the ‘whole person’ Dr. Gater aims to partner with patients to optimize wellness.
Cypress, a Louisiana based healthcare consulting company that specializes in concierge medicine, will be assisting Drs. Richardson and Gater with the practice transition. “Patients in the area are going to love being part of a practice with no more wait times, longer appointments and a family atmosphere that is a return to medicine in days of old,” said Cypress CEO Richard Doughty. “Not only will the patients love the ‘red carpet’ personalized treatment within the practice, Drs. Richardson and Gater will be able to provide the peace of mind that only comes from knowing your physician is literally a cell phone call away. We strongly encourage folks in the community to find out more and see if this type of practice is right for them. With only a few spots remaining, I have no doubt the waiting list will be a long one.”
