Atlanta, GA: “I’m always ready. I make house calls. I’ll go to private offices – whatever they need. I can do essentially anything that can be done in most typical doctor’s offices,” said Dr. Robert Nelson, owner of MyDoc-personal physician services.

SEPTEMBER 11, 2013 – CUMMING, Ga. — A doctor in Forsyth County takes his medical practice directly to his patients.

It’s an old idea that is new again for Dr. Robert Nelson, who has launched a completely mobile medical practice called MyDoc-personal physician services.

By use of the website www.MyDoc-pps.com, Nelson created a type of virtual office that caters to his patients and provides them with a personal physician’s care anywhere.

With technological advances, Nelson said he mostly answers questions and helps his patients via phone, email or video chat, but at a moment’s notice, he is prepared to go wherever he needs to be.

“I’m always ready,” Nelson said. “I make house calls. I’ll go to private offices – whatever they need. I can do essentially anything that can be done in most typical doctor’s offices.”

Nelson said he always has with him tools that allow him to care for his patients. He carries with him a doctor’s bag he received in medical school, along with a paramedic box that includes bandages, medicine, needles and anything else he may need.

The idea for having a mobile office stemmed from Nelson wanting to make medical care affordable and convenient.

“I just thought there needs to be a more direct approach, so it was really born out of that desire and need to work directly for the patient,” Nelson said.

He also wants more people to realize they don’t need to have insurance to afford a doctor and proper care.

“I think that’s one of the biggest messages I want to get out there,” he said. “There’s a way to do this where you can increase access, increase quality and have better outcomes without having a third-party payment system that we’ve grown to know in this country.”

Nelson said it’s important for his patients to know exactly what they’re getting so all fees are published on his website.

The website also creates an efficient way for Nelson to communicate with his patients. He said all emails and phone calls go directly to him, which is why his patients feel comfortable contacting him.

“They know they can always call me, and it makes it more satisfying from my standpoint having that direct relationship with my patients,” Nelson said.
