“DOCTORS MAKING A DIFFERENCE” – Parents Magazine Selects The 7 Most Innovative Pediatricians In The Country
The November 2013 issue features seven pediatricians who forged new ways to care for their young patients by thinking outside the box. Parents Magazine and Desitin are donating a $1,000 to each pediatrician’s’ charity of choice. This gift will be presented at the 2013 American Academy of Pediatrics National Convention and Exposition in Orlando, Florida in October.
OCTOBER 11, 2013 – One of these pediatricians is J. Brian Thornburg, MSM, DO, FAAP of Naples, FL. Dr. Thornburg was the second concierge pediatrician in the United States. He opened his practice in 2006 and has had patients on a waiting list since. The success of the practice comes from loving what he does. It is “An Old Fashioned Approach to Modern Medicine®” says Dr. Thornburg. Children receive medical care as if they were one of his own. One mother described his bedside manner as “quite possibly the most caring, respectable and down to earth husband, father and professional“ she has ever met. “He defines the term ‘lead by example.’” As part of his dedication to the community, Dr. Thornburg works with the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collier County seeing physically and sexually abused children. He selected this group to receive the $1,000 gift.
Dr. Thornburg sees a need to create practices that support the child, the family and the community. Children live in an age of fast food, toxic environments and impersonal medical care. The whole body and community-minded approach is the only way to promote, restore and maintain wellness. Pediatricians from around the country agree. They want to learn how to open similar medical practices. In response to this surge of interest, Innovative Pediatrics, LLC was formed. “Pediatricians were signed up before the company opened,” notes Dr. Thornburg.
InPeds is a practice management and consulting firm that assists pediatricians in the establishment of their own concierge medical offices. Physicians consult with Dr. Thornburg and may purchase a complete turn-key concierge medical practice platform ranging from marketing materials to managerial software to website development and social media support. Dr. Thornburg hopes InPeds will help pediatricians practice better medicine.
Dr. Brian Thornburg is fortunate to practice with his wife, Dr. Helen Thornburg. Together they have eight children between the ages of 11 years and 7 months. They live on an organic farm in Naples, Florida and raise cows, chickens, goats and peacocks, as well as a variety of vegetables, fruits and herbs.
