Amazon’s reported plan to start selling prescription drugs has been shelved over concerns that the category was more challenging than the e-commerce giant expected, CBNC says, based on anonymous people familiar with the matter. News reports in mid-2017 that Amazon would enter the pharmaceutical supply chain led to stock drops for some healthcare companies, and those reports were likely a factor in the steady stream of healthcare mergers and acquisitions that have been announced in recent months. Amazon plans to maintain its business selling medical supplies to hospitals, a spokesperson for Amazon told CNBC.
