Upon receiving board-certification in Internal Medicine, Dr. Mariano was assigned to the Naval Medical Clinic in Port Hueneme, California from 1986-1990 where she ran the Specialty Clinic and the clinic’s urgent care facility. In 1990, Dr. Mariano returned to the Naval Hospital in San Diego to become the Division Head of General Internal Medicine.In June 1992, Dr. Mariano became the first military woman in American history to be appointed White House Physician. She was nominated by the Navy and selected by the White House for this honor. In 1994, Dr. Mariano was named Director of the White House Medical Unit and chosen by President William Clinton to serve as his personal physician. Dr. Mariano served nine years at the White House where she was physician to three sitting American Presidents.Completing 24 years of active duty service, Dr. Mariano retired from the Navy in June 2001 with the rank of Rear Admiral. She became the first Filipino American in history to become a Navy Admiral on July 1, 2000.

Today her private medical practice is nestled in a comfortable, elegant setting in Scottsdale, Arizona. Not too long ago, we sat down with a very special Physician, Dr. Connie Mariano. Dr. Mariano is the Founder and President of the Center for Executive Medicine (CEM) in Scottsdale, Arizona.

She is known to her patients and the media as Dr. Connie Mariano and to two (2) former Presidents of the United States and their families, Dr. Mariano is simply “Dr. Connie.”

Dr. Mariano graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, cum laude, June 1977 from Revelle College at the University of California in San Diego. She attended the nation’s military medical school, the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences School of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine degree in May 1981. Dr. Mariano completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Naval Hospital San Diego, CA in 1982 and 1986 respectively. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine since 1987. She has been a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners since 1982. Dr. Mariano is licensed to practice medicine in Arizona and California.

In November 2005, Dr. Mariano founded the Center for Executive Medicine, a medical concierge practice which provides presidential-quality medical care to CEOs and their families. An expert in presidential health care including the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, Dr. Mariano is a frequent speaker on the topics of care to VIPs, presidential disability, travel medicine, and optimizing quality of care.

 

After leaving the White House, Dr. Mariano became a consultant in the Executive Health Program at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, from July 2001 to October 2005. LEARN MORE about her Book …

Dr. Mariano’s highest position in medicine was held as Physician to the President for President William J. Clinton, from 1994-2001. She has also held the title of Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University School of Health Sciences and the Mayo School of Medicine.

Dr. Connie Mariano served 9 years at the White House under Presidents George H.W. Bush, William J. Clinton, and George W. Bush. She participated in world headline-making news events and traveled all over the world. She cared for visiting dignitaries and was charged with caring for all the members of the First Family.

Dr. Connie Mariano was the Keynote Speaker at the Annual 2019 CONCIERGE MEDICINE FORUM, Atlanta, GA USA.

An expert on the care of VIPs, celebrities, and world leaders, Dr. Mariano is a frequent guest speaker at international conferences as well as on media specials such as CNN’s “The Health of the President.” With over thirty years in the medical profession, Dr. Mariano has taken care of patients both in the military and private sector. She brings to the CEM her unique experience and passion in providing the highest standard of care to all her patients.

During those rare moments she can define as “free time,” Dr. Mariano enjoys writing (author of The White House Doctor: My Patients were Presidents published in 2010 by St. Martin’s Press), hosting her monthly internet radio show, Dr. Connie’s House Calls on the Empowerment Channel of Voice America network; travel; and visiting her grandchildren.
