“The bar is high these days to make a list like this, and it should be,” writes the Editor-in-Chief of the industry trade publication, Concierge Medicine Today (CMT). “Doctors are getting smarter about business, design and what it takes to obtain and retain their Patients. That’s a very good thing. Years ago at the industry conference, the Concierge Medicine Forum, I told Physicians ‘One day, I want you to set the example and my hope is that brands both inside and outside of healthcare will one day study YOU and this field and all of the great things you do.’ Well, that day is here and that dream turned into a goal and it came true. [Concierge Medicine] Physicians and their consultant partners and web site branding designers are now collaborating more than ever and together setting the bar high for Patients and others.”

Lists are subjective, right? A number of factors are at work.
For example, whenever you or I read a list, a study on a new drug, treatment, therapy, etc., the ‘According to who/whom’ usually is the best question upon which we could and/or should use to navigate and discern if this is material that can help us individually come to an agreement about the subject matter we are reading.
There’s an old writer’s technique of “show, don’t tell.” In fact, The Writing Cooperative (TWC), helps define this technique. It confers quality to the texts and helps involve the readers.
In other words, it grabs them.
When was the last time you thought about your web site text and writing in this way?
TWC goes on to explain, … ‘Show’ keeps the readers actively involved in the story. ‘Tell’ will keep them passive on the plot. Applying ‘Show’ don’t ‘tell’ in your writing will take effort. You must uncover each emotion.
So what are the Top Ranked Websites for Great Design in Concierge Medicine of 2022, according to our staff?
Well, it’s a question we don’t take lightly. Many of us have wondered, with countless different answers depending on who you ask. But if we’re looking at each of these sites and how they educate, inform, lead Patients to take action and have unique elements of design, the answer is clearer. Meaning, they are solving a problem for the visitor. We ask How are they helping to communicate and make the Patient experience better? Does the web site help the Patient get acquainted with the Physician, schedule an appointment with ease and/or capture the visitors contact information to get connected and take next steps? We further want to see if it is obvious that this web site is a template? Those can be dizzying, literally. We also visited them ourselves to see if they have a strong call-to-action feature? And, does the web site(s) spend more time talking about the Doctor’s C.V. than it does communicating features and benefits (eg. showing and telling) about the practice and/or programs?
According to The Writing Cooperative, Leona Brits … Showing concrete and vivid details will make the reader create his own conclusions — that will be the same as yours, only he’s going to interpret them by himself. Show keeps the readers actively involved in the story. Tell will keep them passive on the plot.
For example, within the text of your practice web site, are you using strong verbs that create a vivid image and set clear expectations and assumptions for the visitor? Does the text throughout the web site use too many adverbs?
TWC notes, Adverbs distract the reader of the story, they put you, the writer, on the scene. It’s you who’s giving meaning to an action. Moreover, in the story, there’s only place for the characters and the reader (you don’t belong there). About the adverbs, Stephen King, in his book On Writing, a memoir of the craft, states: With adverbs, the writer usually tells us he or she is afraid he/she isn´t expressing himself/herself clearly … Applying Show don’t tell in your writing will take effort. You must uncover each emotion. But think about it: as a reader, do you prefer to feel a chill in your spine reading an erotic scene, or to read that same scene told as if a documentary, naming every feeling?

Finally we wanted to know, does the web site communicate the mission and vision stating in no uncertain terms, ‘You are in the right place and you have arrived at a medical office that cares.’?
“The bar is high these days to make a list like this, and it should be,” writes Michael, Editor-in-Chief of the industry trade publication, Concierge Medicine Today (CMT). [Concierge Medicine] Physicians and their consultant partners and web site branding designers are collaborating together to set the bar high for others. And it should be high. You see, Patients want to know what to expect when they arrive. Google, your Facebook page and your web site are the welcome mat for that first expectation. A lot of people are looking for a new Doctor. I should know what to expect, find plenty of photos that are professionally photographed and that make me as a prospective Patient feel comfortable. Physicians and staff can easily determine if their photographs are ‘up to par’ if they were to suddenly see a photograph taken by a Patient of your practice posted online. Would you feel proud of that photograph or embarrassed? Patients was clean, comfortable and safe environments, period. We want to be impressed. It matters believe it or not. And today, most medical offices you and I walk into frankly, aren’t impressive. In fact, they look the same as they did 30-years ago. There’s no need for that anymore. So what makes each web site on this list unique is the clear and present focus on design, the Patient, educational programming, as well as the incorporation of unique service and treatment focus offerings such as cancer testing, cardiac screening, new PSA tests for prostate cancer and even women’s health topics. For patients (because I am one), a great web site should solve a problem. Whether a Patient knows it or not, a Doctor’s web site provides a solution for them. A Patient wants a partner and a trusted friend in their Doctor. Not everyone wants that but the data surrounding this truth is evident. We surveyed more than 2,000 prospective patients searching for a new Doctor. When 7/10 of those prospective patients told us ‘I want a Doctor I Know, Like and Trust’ then we all need to lean-in and listen and reexamine what we’re getting from our Doctor’s offices these days.”

“I want the Doctor’s to be the story here,” concludes Tetreault. “We don’t need to justify why concierge medicine and subscription-based healthcare delivery is relevant, anymore than we need to explain why it was relevant to my life. [Concierge Medicine] It has relevance, just in and of itself. It [Concierge Medicine] is a way to understand more clearly our own personal health and participate in the decision-making process, the care and treatment discussions with our Doctor in a deeply connected and personal way. We, the Patient, finally get the time to examine all of the options and have a voice and seat at the table again. It’s just plain relevant. But I also don’t get mad around certain language used either. When people hear the term ‘concierge medicine,’ what it triggers is ideas of wealth or opulence, yet when we pause, listen for a second and learn from these Doctors, we see that their heart beat is about bringing the Physician and Patient closer together.”

“It can seem impossible to design all of this in a simple, functional web site, but many great Doctors have pulled it off,” adds Tetreault. “A great web site should communicate all of that. Designing a web site today is a challenge because there is a lot of noise in the marketplace. But Concierge Medicine programs are unique healthcare environments and they should be designed differently than traditional, plan reimbursed practices we’re used to. Otherwise, why are we doing this? We need landing pages that bring Patients closer to a decision. We need clean designs with professional, photographic elements that also set clear expectations about what we as Patients can expect when we arrive. Patients often don’t talk about what a great experience they had at a Doctor’s office. We need to change that. I want your Patients to have such a remarkable experience with you, your team, your staff, the office smells and you the Physician that they can’t help but remark to their friends and family about the amazing experience they just had visiting a Doctor’s office. This should be the standard and you should be the benchmark. Web sites are communication tools that allow new Patients to take ownership of their care. Therefore, your web site should be so good that when you see a new Patient for the first time, they remark about it to either you or your staff. I want your web site to say to a new patient ‘We’re in this together …’ So for us here at CMT, a great web site moves a prospective Patient closer to their Doctor — which is the singular mission behind so many great Concierge Medicine programs across the country today.”
