Question What are the outcomes of nonoperative vs operative management of acute appendicitis in older adults, and are they different from what is seen in younger adults?
Findings In this cohort study, nonoperative management of acute appendicitis in adults 65 years and older was associated with reduced complications, which was different than in those younger than 65 years.
Meaning Nonoperative outcomes in this study were different in older versus younger adults with acute appendicitis; clinical trials should consider age in evaluating the best management approach for acute appendicitis.
