Healthy Leadership Practices

đŸ’Œ “The only addiction we đŸ©ș celebrate is the one that burns us out.” ~C.N.

Let’s be real. Many of you are carrying dreams that feel bigger than your current schedule. Maybe it’s launching your own concierge practice, maybe it’s expanding the one you already have, or maybe it’s simply finding time to breathe.

Here’s the challenge: life doesn’t pause so you can pursue your dream. The next patient walks in, another chart hits your desk, the phone won’t stop ringing—and then suddenly you’re just surviving the week, not building the future.

We hear this phrase all the time: “Just take the leap!” Sounds inspiring. But here’s the truth—we don’t need more leaping, we need more runway building.

Because leaping without a runway? That’s just gravity reminding us who’s boss.

At the Concierge Medicine Forum this October in Atlanta, we’ll be talking about what it looks like to build a runway. Not just for your practice, but for your life. We’ll talk about why perfectionism slows us down, why working harder isn’t always the answer, and how stewarding your time wisely is one of the most spiritual, practical things you can do.

One of our favorite reminders comes from Carey Nieuwhof’s At Your Best:
“Workaholism is the most rewarded addiction in the nation. You can be fired for drinking too much, but working too much usually gets you promoted.”

Sound familiar? FOR Doctors, it’s almost a badge of honor. But here’s the risk: you end up empty, and your dream gets buried under exhaustion.

So here’s what we’d say: don’t wait until you “have time.” You won’t. Don’t wait until the chaos stops. It won’t. Instead, start building your runway in the middle of real life.

  • Maybe that looks like “time blocking” out just 30 minutes to write that book idea.

  • Maybe it’s journaling in the margins of your day.

  • Maybe it’s building the courage to hire someone who can free up your time.

Whatever it is, steward what you have now. Runways don’t get built overnight—but they do get built one intentional step at a time.

So breathe. Be kind to yourself. Trust the process. And remember, your next big thing isn’t waiting at the bottom of a cliff—it’s found along the runway you’re building today.

We’re for you. We’re for doctors.

PS. Join us October 16–18, 2025, in Atlanta at the Concierge Medicine Forum. It’s the annual gathering place for physicians who are building not just practices, but lives that matter.
